01

Native Authentication Login and Password Updates

Modernizing the entry point for a cleaner, safer user experience.

The Challenge: Outdated security questions and “magic links” often led to forgotten answers, weak password controls, and a high volume of support tickets.

The Solution: Workday is moving to One-Time Passcodes (OTP) for password recovery and a refreshed login page layout.

Perceived Value: High — It aligns the platform with modern secure platform expectations.

Effort: Low to Moderate — While deployment is automatic, admins should review authentication policies and ensure users have valid contact details for OTP delivery.

02

Purge Worker Documents, Attachments, and Comments

A “controlled digital shredder” for better data governance.

The Challenge: HR systems often accumulate “mountains” of old data that conflict with strict privacy regulations like GDPR.

The Solution: This update introduces Purgeable Data Types (PDTs), allowing admins to permanently remove worker-related data once it reaches the end of its retention life.

Perceived Value: High — It provides real control over data lifecycles instead of just “cleaning up someday”.

Effort: Moderate — Admins must configure specific Purge Plans to define what stays and what goes.

03

The New Workday Experience for 2026 R1

Moving toward a “search-first” design with fewer clicks.

The Challenge: The previous interface often required excessive menu jumping and context switching to complete simple workflows.

The Solution: A modernized interface featuring a new navigation sidebar and improved task transitions.

Perceived Value: Medium — Makes the platform feel more like a modern consumer app.

Effort: Low — Automatically enabled in Preview and Production, though organizations can opt out via the “Maintain Feature Opt-Ins” report.

04

Dependent Effective Dating

Track changes over time without the “do-overs”.

The Challenge: Unlike other data in Workday, dependent information didn’t always support effective-dated logic, making historical reporting messy and corrections difficult.

The Solution: Effective-dated functionality is now brought to the Dependent business object, allowing for direct corrections of effective dates.

Perceived Value: Medium — Results in cleaner history and far fewer events needing to be cancelled and recreated.

Effort: Low — Automatically available; however, adding help text to the Dependent Event process is recommended to guide users.

05

Web Services for Accrual, Time Off, and Leave

Standardizing integrations for long-term maintainability.

The Challenge: Legacy services like AddUpdate and GetAll are built on an older framework and are being retired.

The Solution: New “Put” and “Get” web service endpoints that support the Object Transporter tool for easier migration between tenants.

Perceived Value: Moderate to High — Essential for integration teams to ensure future compatibility and scalability.

Effort: Moderate to High — Requires updating integration logic and performing thorough testing before legacy services are deprecated.
